The Kilkenny Chamber Golf Challenge took place on the splendid Mount Juliet Golf Course on Thursday 18th May.

The event saw nearly 100 golfers compete for the coveted 1st Prize of a place in the BITA Ambassadors Challenge in Foxhills, London playing for Ireland against England in a Ryders Cup format later this year.

There was an international flair to the event with 6 teams entered by members of BITA (the British Irish Trading Alliance). Paul Whitnell, President of BITA explained “Our mission in BITA is to offer a helping hand to people of both the UK and Ireland who are seeking new business opportunities, relocating or adapting to cultural changes in either country. We are people who know people who help people.”

John Hurley, CEO of Kilkenny Chamber said “The Chamber is all about supporting businesses in Kilkenny and we are delighted to welcome BITA here today and look forward to working with them to help Kilkenny businesses gain footholds, contacts and competitive advantage in the UK market.”

“As Brexit continues to unfold it becomes even more important that interconnectivities between businesses in Ireland and the UK are maintained and supported and Kilkenny Chamber’s relationship with BITA has a tremendously positive role to play in this context” he said.

The players enjoyed a great days golf in one of the best courses in Europe and the prize winners were as follows:

  • 1st Prize: Lyrath Estate Hotel Team. Hugh Fitzpatrick, Alan Phelan, Tom Brennan and David Travers
  • 2nd Prize: State Street Team. Cathal Smyth, Pat Jones, Colm Gaffney and Justin Woods.
