Kilkenny Chamber of Commerce was pleased to meet with the British Ambassador to Ireland, Robin Barnett this week and discuss the implications of Brexit for businesses based in Kilkenny and the SE Region.
The discussions were very positive and culminated in an agreed plan of engagement going forward with an emphasis on identifying our areas of strength on which we can capitalise and turn into opportunities.
Acknowledging that Kilkenny Chamber is already partnered and working closely with the British Irish Trading Alliance (BITA), the Ambassador welcomed this relationship and expressed confidence and optimism for the future.
Chamber President Deirdre Shine said “We were delighted to welcome the Ambassador to Kilkenny and reaffirm the already strong relationships that we have with the UK. With all eyes fixed firmly on the future, we look forward to working closely with the Ambassador and his team for the benefit Kilkenny businesses.”
The meeting took place in the Board Room at MacDonagh Junction Centre and the Ambassador participated as a signatory in the new Famine Experience initiative being spearheaded by Centre Manager, Marion Acreman who said “The discoveries at MacDonagh Junction Centre have been lauded as the most significant in the world regarding the Irish Famine and it is great to have the Ambassadors participation today. We look forward to welcoming him back for the official opening in November” she added.
