We offer web hosting and domain name registration, email, broadband, dedicated servers, colocation and IP transit services. We provide backup services and security certificates. Our siteBuilder and shopBuilder services are very popular for helping small businesses to build websites and online stores. We recently extended our broadband service to include home as well as business users and it is now available nationwide.

Blacknight employs 48 staff in Ireland. They have all been working from home for the past year because of Covid 19. Our headquarters is in Graiguecullen in Carlow and we have offices in Dublin and Wexford. Our team continues to grow and develop and we are currently recruiting.

Blacknight was founded as a two-man startup in 2003. Today, 30% of all Irish-hosted websites are on Blacknight servers. We joined Kilkenny Chamber in 2018, we find Kilkenny is a great place to do business and some of the best parts are the culture, commerce and community. We find being a member of Kilkenny Chamber is a valuable forum for business networking in the South East.

What is one the best parts of your business… When we get positive feedback from a client. It’s always nice to see how we’ve been able to make things better for them.

Have you as a company faced many obstacles in the last year…Since we already worked across multiple sites, it wasn’t a total shock to transition to a totally distributed enterprise. But having everyone work from home has brought new challenges, such as hiring and training new staff and, for some of our people, dealing with the demands of childcare and home schooling. We’ve worked hard to ensure there is no impact on our service to customers. We moved quickly to prioritise the needs of businesses coping with the pandemic, introducing new website and ecommerce products, and a rapid web build service. And we brought forward our launch of residential broadband, in response to the remote working revolution.

What is your favourite thing to do or see in Kilkenny… Eating out. Kilkenny has some absolutely fantastic dining options.
