The Kilkenny Chamber Golf Challenge got off to a flying start in Mount Juliet on Thursday 9th July when it featured a spectacular parachute drop by two members of the Irish Sky Diving Club based in Kilkenny Airport.
This most unusual and exciting start to the golf outing was organised by Chamber member and owner of Kilkenny Airport, Mr David Byrnes. Commenting on the drop, David said “Kilkenny Airport is in business 50 years and was delighted to be part of the Kilkenny Chamber Golf Challenge in Mount Juliet. The two jumpers, Conor Heelan and Vince O’Donnell are experienced sky divers and took off that morning from Kilkenny Airport which is located just 3km from Kilkenny City”.
The Golf outing was a tremendous success with 26 teams entered. The weather smiled favourably on the event and some great scores were produced. The main sponsor on the day was Bolands BMW and the prize winners were as follows:
1st Prize: Bank of Ireland. John Grace, Richard Guilfoyle, Joe Fitzpatrick, Larry Carroll.
2nd Prize: Poe Kiely Hogan Lanigan. Owen Sweeney, Shay Quinn, Niall O’Gorman, James Farrell.
3rd Prize: Ecclesiastical Insurance. John Devitt, Philip Rowe, Brendan Roberts, Declan Lacey.
Longest Drive: John Quinn.
